I was a volunteer firefighter for two different departments at separate times. Almelund was the longest, but I relocated due to work. I was also a firefighter in Centuria, WI, where I owned a trailer manufacturing business. It was one of the most rewarding times of my life and I remain friends with people from both departments.
I attended Pine Technical College in Pine City, MN, for my firefighter training and earned certifications in Firefighter 1, 2, and 3, as well as Hazmat 1 and 2.
At the same time, I was completing my initial EMT training at Lakes Region in North Branch, MN. I was certified by the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians (NREMT).
The picture on the left was taken during my first year working at the Almelund Threshing Show fund raiser. I'm on the left, my father-in-law is on the right (a retired PA fire chief and now a fire investigator), and in front of us is my daughter Josie.
